Information We Collect

HotelCompare has no user accounts and no contact form. You can use the whole site without giving us any personal information, and we do not ask for any. The newsletter box in the footer is currently a placeholder: submitting it shows a confirmation message, but your email address is not sent, stored or passed to anyone. If we launch a real newsletter we will update this policy first and say exactly where addresses are kept.

Browsing and filtering our hotel list happens entirely in your browser, against data that is built into the site. When you use the search box, the destination, dates and guest count you enter are placed in the link to the booking site that opens; they are not sent to us or stored by us.

We do not run analytics or advertising scripts. Like almost every website, our web server records standard access logs — IP address, requested page, browser type and time — which we use only for security and troubleshooting and do not combine with any other data.

How We Use Your Information

Because we collect nothing beyond short-lived server logs, there is nothing to profile, sell, rent or trade. If you email us at support@hotelcompare.com, we use your message and address only to reply to you.

When you click through to a booking site (Booking.com, Trip.com, Agoda or Expedia), that site handles your reservation and all personal and payment data you give it. Its privacy policy applies from that moment — we recommend reading it before you book.

Cookies and Browser Storage

HotelCompare itself sets no cookies. Two small features keep data in your own browser instead: your saved favourites and your recently viewed hotels are stored in your browser's local storage, and a sponsored banner you close is remembered for the current tab in session storage. This data never leaves your device, is not visible to us, and disappears when you clear your browser data. If storage is blocked, the site still works — those two features simply start empty.

Partner cookies are different. Our booking links pass through our affiliate partner, Stay22, which records the click (and may set its own cookies) so that the booking site can attribute any commission to us; the booking sites then set their own cookies when you arrive. The sponsored Viator banners on the site load their images from Viator's servers, which can see your IP address like any image host, and their links carry our partner ID. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser does not affect anything on HotelCompare itself.

Third-Party Sites

HotelCompare links to third-party booking sites including Booking.com, Trip.com, Agoda, and Expedia. When you click a booking link, you leave our site and are subject to the privacy practices of the destination site. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of these partners.

We receive a commission when you complete a booking through one of our partner links. Affiliate commission is our only source of revenue; it never affects the price you pay, and it never affects which price we highlight as the cheapest.

Your Rights

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information we hold about you. In practice we hold none beyond short-lived server logs, so there is normally nothing to access or delete. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence removed, write to support@hotelcompare.com and we will do so within 30 days.

Residents of the EU, UK, and California have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA, including the right to data portability and the right to object to processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
